Summary of Case of Corruption in Nigeria

In 1998, the large Texas-based oil and gas service firm, Halliburton, acquired authority Industries where one of its largest businesses was the general occupyors for construction projects named M. W. Kellogg. Kellogg then was combined with an existing Halliburton business and renamed Kellogg, Brown and Root, or KBR. At the time, it looked like a good deal for Halliburton. However, in early 2005, Halliburton put KBR for cut-rate sale to distance itself from several scandals which include the allegations that KBR had systematically overcharged Pentagon for services it provided to the U.S. armed forces in Iraq and scandal on the Nigerian liquefied instinctive gas (LNG) plants that involved KBR employees, several former officials of the Nigeria regimen, and a cryptic British lawyer called Jeffrey Tesler. This was started in 1994 when Kellogg and its three consortium partners were arduous to win an initial amaze from the Nigerian government to make believe two LNG plants. By early 1995 the KBR consortium was deep in final negotiations on the contract. Investigations were held when there was suspicion that Tesler promised to funnel big sums to Nigerian government officials if the deal was done. The investigations was based on few factors including the know corruption of General Abachas government, the size of payment to Tesler and serial publication of railway lines turned up by internal investigators at Halliburton.
