Manhunt- Simon Armitage

Simon Armitages poem Manhunt talks about a blood existence different after the husband returns from war, and the married woman is laborious to vex them back to how they were before hand. This makes me speculate that the speaker is trying to get to know her partner again, like its a brand new relationship with a brand new person. Along with this, the title Manhunt makes me think that the speaker is searching for the person she knew previously. The line only then would he let me trace suggests that she is slowly overcoming his defence-barrier, only then is also repeated two lines away. I think Armitage did this to make the process seem slow, like shes taking small steps at a time. Porcelain collar-bone emphasises how fragile he is, and how careful she has to be with him.

She talks about binding the struts , this suggests that she is trying to patch him up, as if she was trying to fix his broken ribs. However, I think shes trying to fix him, in order to fix them, because if hes not ok then she cant be- because she loves him. As the poem goes on, I think the military personnel starts to trust his family and wife again, I picture the scan, the foetus of metal suggests this.
