The Chemical Composition And Formula Of It - 1002 Words

BAD What is the chemical composition/formula of it? (Is it ionic/molecular, neutral, and acid or a base?) Caffeine (C8H10N4O2) is a molecular compound however it forms ionic bonds. It is an alkaloid which means that it is an organic nitrogen containing a base. Caffeine is only slightly basic. Where is the compound/element found? Caffeine is found naturally in many trees and plants. Currently, environmental issues including deforestation, pesticide pollution, habitat destruction, soil and water degradation are in part due to the production and harvesting on modern day coffee farms and their surrounding areas. How is it made? Caffeine is often harvested in large coffee plantations where working conditions are poor and workers aren’t treated ethically. The working conditions are not up to code, as many workers, bath and prepare food from the same water, the men often sleep in temporary shelters, and many work with inadequate health care and education. Economically, coffee production in unfair, as many farmers have to sell their coffee for less money than it costs to produce it, and family farmers can sometimes only make an income of $300-$1000 annually. Is it natural. Synthetic or both? Caffeine can be synthetic or natural however, synthetic caffeine affects our bodies in different ways than naturally sourced caffeine does. Synthetic caffeine is made in a lab and it requires the synthesis of urea which is exposed to many harsh chemicals including methyl chloride andShow MoreRelatedThe Building Blocks of Life1080 Words   |  4 Pagesdiscuss the chemical composition of each of them. And I will go over the functions of each of them. The chemical composition of adenine consists of two major elements. One component of adenine consists N by H squared, also known as nitrogen multiplied by hydrogen squared. The majority of the portions of adenine compose of entirely nitrogen. And one section of adenine is N by H, also known as Nitrogen multiplied by Hydrogen. Adenine has a quite complex network of elements. When zinc and hydrochloric acid are mixed together, the reaction took place in an evaporating dish that was accompanied by hydrogen gas. Then we measured out the mass of zinc and chlorine in the reaction and calculated the empirical formula of zinc chloride which was ZnCl8. Based on the conservation of mass, we balanced the equation and got Zn(s) + 8 HCl (aq) → ZnCl8 (s) + 4 H2 (g). In the second part of the experiment, we obtained copper wire and sulfur from the instructor. Then we
