The narrator in the duomo is metaphorically cheat in the sense that he doesnt have an insight on vivification or people. The narrator has fully functional vision only does not purpose it because he doesnt know how to. The narrator doesnt rightfully care about his wifes past and how it has modify her as a psyche. The narrator doesnt understand the genuine pleases of life and how everything should not be looked at in the colorize of white and grey but seen through all the opposite colors of life. In Raymond Carvers cathedral the narrator has an epiphany that transforms him from alienation and loneliness to creativity and to vision.
Even though Robert is blind he has an insight on life and people. The narrator thinks the Robert could never have a good relationship with Belluah because he could not see her. Robert may have never saw Belluah but he has an intimate relationship with her because he truly loves her and understands her as a person. Robert says he has two television sets which shows that he doesnt have look but has more vision than the narrator because he uses the televisions to learn about those which he cannot see. The narrator understands that he is blind when he says the he couldnt explain how the duomo looked even though he was looking right at it on the television.
When the narrator draws a cathedral with Robert and closes his eyes, he has an epiphany during which he can see more than he ever could with his eyes open. This is shown in the short story when the narrator states that he cute to keep his eyes closed because he didnt find out like he was in anything.
The narrator in the Cathedral realizes that he has been transformed when he draws the cathedral to a person who can truly see the significance of things in life; one being the Cathedral.
