An Incidence of an Allergic Reaction. A Reflective case study.

Introduction
In the role of a pre hospital clinician, reflection is an important action as it enables you to evaluate an incident after it has happened. It can be used to highlight what you might need to learn or practise (Blaber, 2008). Alternatively what went well and why, so that the experience may be repeated. For this case study I shall be using Gibbs model of reflection (Gibbs, 1988). The model itself has been described as simple and incorporates the elements that describe a situation, express emotions about the situation, evaluate and snap the situation, finally reach conclusions and provide an action plan for the future.
This ruminative case study is being written as a necessary part of the IHCD Paramedic course. In addition it was a situation of which I had had previous little experience and a reflection could therefore be used to increase my take aim of knowledge, and future patient care. It concerned the case of a 42 yr old male that dialled 999 as a resultant of a concern that he was going into anaphylactic shock. box is the inability of the cardiovascular system to provide adequate group O for tissue perfusion and as such can be tone threatening.



Anaphylaxis can affect the cardiovascular, pulmonary, cutaneous, and gastrointestinal systems. It is an acute response, in patients antecedently sensitised to an allergen and can be life threatening.

The Incident
The call was in response to a male in his forties at home. On entering the premises it was apparent that the situation was inviolable for my crew mate and I to approach the patient. An initial judgement of the patient revealed he was flushed in appearance, with a brocaded respiratory rate, clearly very anxious, stating a sense of impend doom and exhibiting rigours.
